Speech for the Future

Today Esther Marie has an appointment with a state funded program which helps children who are developmentally behind. This program was recommended by the cleft clinic. Jasper met with them this past Friday, and today I will take Esther Marie so she can be evaluated to see if she qualifies for the program. Since she is almost 2-1/2 and really isn't speaking English, she will qualify. Once she has been qualified and had her first surgery for her palate, she will begin speech therapy. With this program, a speech therapist will come out to the house weekly or twice a month (not sure yet), to help teach Emmie to speak. They will show me exercises to do so that I can work with her also between visits. We had a similar program with MaryAlyce and it was great, so I am looking forward to getting her started. She is eligible until she is three and then she will go for help at the public school. I am sure we will also need to get some additional help, especially next summer.

After the appointment, I will give you an update on what they said about her and her development. Her surgery is next Wednesday, the 20th...so please be praying. Thanks!
