Another Long Doctor Visit on Monday

Yesterday, Esther Marie and I were at the International Adoption Clinic for three hours! It was her follow-up appointment where we received her medical report, including results from blood tests.

From the moment we got out of the car, she was anxious. I am always amazed that a child this age can recognize a place, but I know she did. She had her blood drawn at this facility and that was one of those traumatic events for a little one.

We saw the occupational therapist and she evaluated Emmie's fine and gross motor skills. Her fine motor skills are actually more on target than her gross motor skills. Since she really doesn't have language, Amy was not able to evaluate that really. We had already seen the other group and they placed her in the 9-12 month range for language. As far as gross motor skills and strengthening those, Amy suggested buying one of the large exercise balls so we could do some activities with that.

We had a follow-up visit with a doctor and she went over the blood work results. After titers testing, it looked like most of her immunizations were good. We only have to re-do one. We talked some about what to expect at the hospital before and after surgery, so that was good...but it did overwhelm me.

We also had a follow-up with Leigh Ann, who is the bonding and social specialist at the clinic. We talked about Esther Marie's lack of fear...and the broken collar bone. She is SO very active and daring that it makes me worry that she is going to get hurt again. We went over some possible ways to help her learn the consequences of throwing herself off furniture!

It was a good visit and I was particularly glad to find that her parasite tests were coming in negative! We have two more results we are waiting for.
