It's Friday and we have been busy this morning learning about how to take care of Esther Marie when we get home today. Yes, they are going to release her...yippie! We are SO ready to go home! I am sure that anyone who has been in a hospital knows how it feels. I have felt out-of-touch and it's been surreal. Days and night blend together, especially when you have a hurting, crying child.
But.....the doctor just came in and said we can go home....it is now 1:40 p.m. We are already packed up and part of our things are in the car. They have to take the IV line and the monitoring line off and once she is dressed, we will leave. Hopefully, it will be in time to get our other children when they get out of school today.
The nutritionist came in already and went over all the things that she is allowed to eat and all the "no-no" items. She has to eat really smooth items with no seeds or pulp. And things like smooth peanut butter are off limits because it is too sticky.
I seem to learn something new each day about what they did during surgery. There are still some gaps in her mouth apparently and those are filled with a packing material that will dissolve away. The doctor just told me that her breath would be bad though because of that packing stuff and so don't worry about it. No brushing teeth for awhile! They will see us for a follow-up visit in three weeks....I had thought it was two.
The last couple of nights have been rough because of the pain and the fever she has been running, but she is off the morphine and now taking Tylenol or Motrin for the pain and to keep her temperature down. Apparently, running a light fever is normal after a surgery like this.
Well, the nurse just came in with the discharge papers and took out the IV line. Jasper is dressing Esther Marie as I finish this up and she is so excited to be leaving. She blew a kiss to the doctor when he was here and she said bye-bye to our nurse and gave her a big high five. So we will be heading home now and to pick up our other children from school....and we are glad!
I have some photos to post and will try to do that later. Thanks for your prayers...and please continue to pray that the surgery spots will heal quickly and the fever will go away and that the pain will fade away quickly too.
Love to all!
Sarah
