Hi everyone....happy Sunday morning to you from Hong Kong!
It's almost 6:30 a.m. here and we have been up for several hours and have even had our showers! (faint) Yesterday, after breakfast, the rain had stopped and we went out for a walk along the Promenade. We walked along the section with the Avenue of Stars (celebrates Hong Kong film stars and film industry). Want to find out more about Avenue of Stars? Click on the blog title. On Friday morning as we sat in the coffee shop, we watched as tourists stood in the rain having their pictures made. All of a sudden, one young guy ran over to a famous statue of Bruce Lee, whipped off his shirt and flexed his muscles...snap, snap, snap...several photos were taken. Girls standing around were giggling and I almost fell out of my chair because I was laughing so hard. I thought it was one silly college guy's idea of fun until I watched more and more guys doing the same thing over and over again. Must be some tradition here to do that! Pretty funny! Wished I had had the video camera with me. (To be submitted to Hong Kong's funniest home video show?)
Our hotel connects to the Promenade along Victoria Harbour ...which looks out toward Hong Kong Island. As I said before, we are staying in Kowloon. It is so interesting to me to watch all the people as we walk along. The clothes and shoes the women wear are very fashionable, and the haircuts are stylish. I keep seeing styles that would look good for Joshua and wish he was here so he could get his hair cut! Hannah would love the watches and the shoes...wow, the heels!
When we walked out onto the Promenade, it seemed surreal looking across the water at all the futuristic-looking, tall buildings. I kept thinking I might see Superman flying through the sky! The place was bustling with people. As we neared the shopping mall, we stopped for an ice cream cone. We saw a large cruise ship docked and Jasper said it was not even that big compared to some. The shopping mall was SO big we had to get a map to find our way around. This is a "high end" shopping mall with all sorts of stores on different levels. They have little specialty stores throughout, including American ones like Hallmark. We bought a stroller for Esther Marie at Toys R Us and MaryAlyce has been using it. All the walking we are doing is hard on little legs (bigger tired legs too!) She took a nap in it for a couple of hours, so we were especially glad we had gotten it. We ended up with a Kolcraft stroller (red and black)...amazing that we have come all this way and buy a brand that is common in the U.S. Almost everyone who adopts gets a stroller for the baby to use for sightseeing and while shopping. Some people leave them in China, but we brought ours home last time.
MaryAlyce got a little present at Toys R Us also....a PlayDoh Picnic Bucket. She has been busy making sandwiches and fruit this morning and having a little picnic. Little hands need to stay busy, you know!) She and daddy just left the room in search of food...it's now 7:00 a.m. here on Sunday. I am sure they will bring something yummy back...and some coffee...yippie!
We found an Asian food court area in the mall where we were and had a couple of interesting and delicious Chinese meals. MaryAlyce woke in time to enjoy some of mine and had fun eating the noodles with chopsticks. The walk back to the hotel along the Promenade was crowded with people last night and the lighting on the buildings was gorgeous. We are going back out tonight when it is clearer to see them again. It looks much better, weather-wise, today and we are happy about that. I think Jasper plans for us to head to Hong Kong Island using the ferry and then we will take a bus ride on the top of a double-decker bus to the Peak. The view is supposed to be spectacular.
Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday evening and Sunday morning. More soon from Hong Kong. (Two days and counting until Gotcha Day...every time I think of it, my heart races!)
