Are We On The Wanted List Now in Guangzhou???

On Thursday afternoon, we met at 3:00 to go to the main Guangzhou police station to apply for Esther Marie's passport. The process didn't take that long, but it was interesting. When it was our turn to meet with the officer there, the lady at the desk where we sat jumped up and a higher ranking official took her place. The younger lady who jumped up was showing the higher ranking lady how to process our information for the passport. There seemed to be a flurry of activity. We were wondering what was going on, but didn't have anyone to ask. Then a photographer came up and took pictures of us and of the higher ranking official who was using the computer and doing our paperwork. The official then took Esther Marie's photo with a small camera. The photographer spoke some English and asked about our children. Again, we got surprised looks when we said we have four! Remember...this is a one child society, for the most part. In about 10 minutes or so, we were done. When we walked back to Rebecca, we asked...what was THAT all about? She said...didn't you know? That official lady was the head of the Guangzhou police...a very high ranking official, and she has not been to this location in about 5 years...and she just processed YOUR baby's passport. Her photo and probably yours will be on the Guangzhou police website! WOW! THAT is a weird feeling! Now are we "wanted" in Guangzhou??? (laugh)

We don't have any photos, but wish that we did. We were afraid to whip out the camera at the police station since we didn't know if we were allowed to. We remembered when our friend Lewis took photos in an official area at the Beijing airport and the officers there got so upset, so we didn't want to take any chances. Oh well.....
