Hong Kong on Saturday

Greetings to all! I know I have not written yet about our trip over and I apologize about that. I started a post and then got tired and didn't finish it. I want to journal some of the things about the actual trip, which I will try to do later tonight. I am sure one day that Emmie (Esther Marie) will want to read about it. The trip....wow, more than 8,000 miles and so many hours that I don't want to add them up right now. I am still tired! I guess the older you get, the more it wears on you! (ouch!) Did I just admit to being "old" ??? (laugh) Anyway, Jasper has gone out to the bank to exchange some money and MaryAlyce is sitting here by me watching Mulan...how appropriate. It has stopped pouring down rain and lightening, so we are going to venture out....acutally outside, that is. Yesterday, we did not go out, but stayed in the hotel and a shopping mall attached to the hotel. We had breakfast at a little cafe overlooking the water and looking across at Hong Kong island. We are actually staying at a hotel in Kowloon...the Renaissance Kowloon Hotel. If you want to check it out, click on the title of this blog entry. We had coffee and danish for breakfast and MaryAlyce had yogurt and a cinnamon donut with orange juice. It cost over $22 so you can tell it is pricey around here. For lunch I guess we wanted some food that seemed like home, so we went to McD's in the shopping mall. Items on the menu different from home that we tried.....spicey wings, a pork sandwich with terriaki sauce (you could have had a egg on it, but Jasper skipped that) and MaryAlyce had some corn kernels in a cup. She was disappointed there was no BBQ sauce for her nuggets. We enjoyed looking around the shopping mall and especially in the large grocery store that is here. They seem to sell most everything and even had an "American" foods section. MaryAlyce loved being able to get some M&M's! We came back to the room when MaryAlyce fell asleep on her daddy's shoulder, and we all had a "nap" from about 6:00 pm until just after midnight. Then we were up...because Mei Mei was up...REALLY up...like bouncing off the walls! We finally went back to sleep sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. and woke after 8:00. We went to breakfast at one of the hotel restaurants and had the buffet. It was our first "real meal" and was very delicious. We had all the normal breakfast items that you would find in America and there were plenty of Chinese items too...such as congee...which is a watery rice dish that you add ingredients to. We skipped that though and went for the omlets. Now that the rain has stopped, we are going to head out to a large shopping mall and just walk around some. Many of the things we had planned to do have been put on "hold" because of the weather. It's totally okay though because we really needed to rest up before we head on to China to get Esther Marie. I am so thankful for these few days to do that since it was so hectic before we left and we went without much sleep for days and days. Well, I will close for now and write more later. Thanks to you all for your comments and your guests book posts....and for your prayers!

Josh is downstairs from his post-campfire shower, and we just read this post together. Great to get an idea of what you are doing and how you are. Thanks for taking the time to post. Will show Hannah the birthday greetings and the rest of the blog when she returns from the slumber party. Love, Pat (and Josh) p.s. Josh wants me to tell you he will get his BB Gun, Archery, and Field Sports badges.

Fun to read your long post and hear how you all are doing. The B'day cards are cool!

I am sitting here with David watching one of the european soccer championship games. Germany plays it's first game tomorrow night against Poland.
Went shopping with the ladies today. They went in a million dress shops in Hamburg.... I read a newspaper on a bench and waited for them.

looking forward to your next post!
